Experience the lush lowland area with three springs, surrounded by lovely ferns and mosses. Observe the area of serpentine rock, an extension of the outcropping at Pink Hill.
Learn about the history of the East Woods, once a dense forest and the site of a land management project in the late ’70s. Cross Barren Road and follow the Minshall Trail (white blazes) through the woodland adjacent to the east side of Dismal Run.
What to expect:
- Check in at the Visitor Center, then meet your guide
- Prepare for a moderate amount of hiking on hilly, rocky terrain.
- Peaceful woodland scenery
- Changes in grade, including steep hills
What to wear & carry:
- Dress in layers for the outdoors
- Hiking boots or shoes with good tread
- Insect repellent
- Water and snacks
- Hiking poles (if you use them)
